Sip Through the Summer With Local Beverages!

July 18, 2024

Glug-glug-glug… There’s nothing quite like liquid refreshment on a hot summer’s day! Even more satisfying is to enjoy a drink made by a local producer. Here are some examples to entice your taste buds—all of them offered on the menu at OMG Resto..

Cherry River

It doesn’t get much more local than this! The Cherry River distilleryis named for a nearby hamlet and river, and it produces gin, vodka, rum, tequila, liqueurs and ready-to-drink cocktails (among other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks). The distillery and boutique are housed in a 150-year old former church (does that ring a bell!?) in downtown Magog. The general public can tour the facilitiesand, of course, sample the products!

Many of the drinks contain botanical elements and are infused with local herbs, flowers and fruit—lavender grown in the Eastern Townships, maple syrup, blueberries, cranberries and morello cherries, to name a few.

To drink at OMG: L'Encensoir. This delicious drink is a combination of Cherry River tequila, triple sec, lime syrup (smoked in-house) and lime juice.

bullheaded

The origins of this family-operated business go back to the 1890s, when John Henry Bryant created a ginger ale (a novelty at the time) in Richmond, in the Eastern Townships. He was said to be bullheaded(stubborn) and used to getting his own way, hence the name of the company, apparently suggested by his wife!

Down the decades, Bull’s Head passed through a number of owners before being purchased by Charles Martel and brothers Carl and Dominic Pearson in 2009. In addition to ginger ale, the company now produces ginger beer, root beer, cola, blood orange soda, cream soda and tonic.

To drink at OMG: Rest in Peach, a cocktail made with Smirnoff vodka, roasted peach and thyme syrup, Bull's Head orangeade, lemon juice and soda.

Rosemont | Distillerie de Montréal

In 2013, Distillerie de Montréal opened a distillery in the Rosemont neighbourhood of Montreal and began producing exceptional, high-quality alcoholic drinks—spirits (including a wide choice of rums), liqueurs and ready-to-drink cocktails. Interestingly, it was the first distillery in Canada to use the “Charentais” (double-distillation) method to create their products—something that speaks to the expertise and attention to detail shown by their master distillers. The distillery, which is on Chapleau Street in Montreal, also offers guided tours.

At the restaurant, we use many of Rosemont's products in our cocktails. They're all delicious! We've experimented with pineapple rum, rum punch, elderflower liqueur... Come and sample one (or more!) for yourself.

To drink at OMG: our red sangria made with red wine, Rosemont rum punch, fruit juice, Sprite and frozen berries.

Le Trou du Diable

This microbrewery probably needs no introduction. It’s pretty famous! Founded in Shawinigan in the region of Mauricie, Le Trou du Diable has been around since 2005 and its beers have won over 160 international medals and awards. That isn’t surprising. The brewery has the largest barrel-aging cellar in Canada and its beers are exceptional! When visitors tour the facilities, they also learn a lot about the brewing industry in Quebec.

For those reasons and many more, OMG Resto is delighted to offer so many of Trou du Diable’s brands, including the popular La Pitoune (a lager), L’Apocalypso (a white IPA) and Le Sang d’Encre (a hearty stout).

Quebec Gin Bar

Gin is all the rage just now and the province of Quebec produces a wide range of this popular spirit. Our distilleries offer an unbelievable choice!

Botanical gins, flavoured with everything from herbs to berries to seeds, are particularly fashionable, and that’s why we’ve opened a bar dedicated to this old-made-new again spirit. (Gin was said to have been invented in the 16th century.) On our menu, you’ll find notably a good selection of Quebec products such as Canopée, Cirka, Betchwan, Kepler, Stadaconé, KM12, St. Laurent, Furlong, Menaud... You’ll be spoiled for choice!

To drink at OMG: a gin plank with three types of the latest gins to sample along with tonic water. (By the way, it’s the special on Thursday evenings!)
